
It turned out to be a great day for India in the Badminton Asia Championships 2025 as two out of the four Indian mixed doubles pairs made it into the round of 16 after winning the first round matches on Tuesday, April 8. Firstly, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto defeated Malaysia’s Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin. After losing the first set by 15-21, the pair made a comeback and went on to win the next two sets by 21-12 and 21-11.
After that, Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh came out victorious against the Sri Lankan pair of Thulith Palliyaguru and Panchali Adhikari in just 20 minutes, winning the first two sets by 21-9, 21-11. Now, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will take on the Chinese pair of Ye Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan while Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh will face Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin in the round of 16.
Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde fell short after winning first set
Talking about the other Indian players, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde fell short against Malaysia’s Roy King Yap and Valeree Siow despite winning the first set. The Indian pair took an early lead by 21-18. After that, Yap and Siow made a great comeback and went on to win the next two sets by 21-17 and 21-17.
Meanwhile, Sathish Kumar and Aadya Variyath were defeat by Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie as the Malaysian pair won the first two sets straight by 21-18, 21-19. Now, after the doubles, India’s focus will now shift on the singles events where PV Sindhu will lead the charge in women’s event while Lakshya Sen will be seen in action in men's singles.
