In the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Akash Deep did his job of nightwatchman quite efficiently. Following the early loss of two wickets in the second innings, Akash Deep was sent by Team India in the middle to join Yashasvi Jaiswal and play the role of nightwatchman. As a batter, his responsibility was to stand at the crease until the end of day two and he did that superbly after hitting a boundary in his first two balls. On Day three at The Oval in Lonon, when he came to bat, he took England’s bowling attack to the cleaners and notched up his maiden Test fifty.

He brought his first international half-century in just 70 balls. After completing his fifty, he didn’t relent, but collected 15 more runs. He ended his innings after scoring 66 off 94. Jamie Overton got him caught at the hands of Gus Atkinson. With Jaiswal, he did a solid 107-run stand for the third wicket. Noting his exceptional batting show, netizen showered praise on the 28-year-old. An X user named Mufaddal Vohra wrote, "MAIDEN TEST FIFTY BY AKASHDEEP. A sensational half century by Akashdeep, he's doing his job perfectly as a nightwatchman. What a knock!"

Below are some of the posts on X appreciating Akash Deep for his maiden fifty in Test cricket:

Yashasvi Jaiswal looking in fine touch in The Oval Test

Yashasvi Jaiswal has exuded confidence in the second innings. After failing to be effective in the first innings, his job was to deliver a fine start to the side in the second innings when India were eagerly looking to make a comeback. Thus far, he has played his part efficiently.

Following the end of the opening session on third day, India have accumulated 189/3 in 44 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal is batting at an unbeaten 85 off 106 while Shubman Gill has scored an unbeaten 11 off eight.
