The football community was devastated by the news of Liverpool forward and Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota’s death in a tragic car crash on July 3, 2025. The accident also claimed the life of Jota’s brother and fellow footballer Andre Silva. Tributes poured in from all over the world and team members of Liverpool attended the funeral service of both the brothers in Portugal. Liverpool and Preston North End held a moment of remembrance before their recent pre-season friendly, and Liverpool confirmed the retirement of shirt No. 20 in his honour.
In another such tribute to Diogo Jota, Wolverhampton Wanderers aka Wolves have inducted him into the club’s Hall of Fame after he was an integral part of them for years. The club confirmed it in a post on social media saying, “It’s a tribute that honours both his remarkable achievements for the club and the deep impact his passing has had on the footballing world.” Wolves director of football administration Matt Wild said, “Diogo was not only a phenomenal footballer, but someone who carried himself with humility and kindness throughout his time at Wolves, and will be sorely missed by all of us.”
Diogo Jota's stint with Wolves helped them return to the Premier League after six years
Diogo Jota joined Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid in 2017, he played a key role in the club’s return to the Premier League after six long years of absence, scoring 17 goals in the Championship. He was with the team for three years, appearing in 131 games and scoring 44 goals. His performances helped the club in two successive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League.
In the year 2020, he made a move to Liverpool. With his induction into the Wolves’ Hall of Fame, Diogo Jota has joined the legends of the club such as Billy Wright, Derek Dougan, and Steve Bull, ensuring his name will forever be etched into the club’s proud history.
