In the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2025, Britain’s Emma Raducanu lost to Czech’s Karolina Muchova. Raducanu was seen crying and gasping after Muchova took a 2-0 lead in the early stage of the contest. However, the British displayed courage and made a comeback. Her spunk took the game to a tie-breaker but she failed to hold her nerves eventually after missing a set point.
Karolina Muchova’s dominance in the initial stage of the match helped her to win the momentum against the 22-year-old and register a convincing victory of 7-6 (8-6) and 6-4 win.
Emma Raducanu has earlier gained back her position in the list of world’s top 60 players of the previous year after missing the action for most of the 2024 season due to surgery on both wrists and her left ankle. In the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2025, she beat Greece’s Maria Sakkari and ended a four-game losing streak, which is the worst phase of her brief career. Meanwhile, the second round also saw the soft side of Muchova as the Czech tennis star went to Raducanu, when she broke down. Muchova will be seen next against US’ McCartney Kessler.
Coco Gauff faces third-consecutive loss on WTA Tour in Dubai
Coco Gauff looked off colour in the Dubai tournament after she kicked off the year with nine consecutive wins. Following her loss to Spain’s Paula Badosa in the Australian Open quarter-finals, she put up disheartening performances in Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships. Her miserable form has led to her elimination from the first round of both tournaments.
Against McCartney Kessler, Gauff recorded 4-6 5-7 figures which sealed her third defeat in a row. Moreover, world number one Aryna Sabalenka clinched a 6-3 6-4 win against Veronika Kudermetova while the second-ranked Swiatek also outclassed two-time major winner Victoria Azarenka 6-0 6-2.
