India had a decent outing with the bat on day 1 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Coming to bat first after losing the toss, the visitors finished the day at the score of 310 runs for the loss of five wickets with Shubman Gill scoring a hundred along with the 87-run knock by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Batting first, India lost their first wicket in the form of KL Rahul (2 off 26) at the score of 15 runs.
After that, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Karun Nair added 80 runs for the second wicket. Nair got out after scoring 31(50) runs hitting five boundaries. After that, skipper Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal at the crease as the duo added another 66 runs before Jaiswal lost his wicket after scoring 87 runs off 113 balls hitting seven fours.
Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja add 99 runs for 6th wicket
After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant put up a partnership of 47 runs for the fourth wicket before Pant got out after scoring 25 runs off 42 balls with one six and a four. After that, Gill took charge as he completed his fifty in 125 balls. He continued further along with Ravindra Jadeja and went on to score a hundred in back to back Test matches as he reached the triple figure mark in 199 balls on day one.
The Indian skipper finished remained unbeaten on day scoring 114 runs off 216 hitting 12 boundaries, while Jadeja scored 41*(67) with the help of five fours. The duo has put up a partnership of 99 runs so far by the end of the day. For England, Chris Woaked took two wickets while Ben Stokes, Shoaib Bashir and Brydon Carse scalped a wicket each.
