England dominated Team India on the fourth Test’s third day of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Manchester. England, who concluded the second day’s play at a score of 225/2, witnessed the belligerence of Joe Root and Ollie Pope. Both added 116 runs more to help the English team go close to the total of 358. Pope became the victim of Washington Sundar after scoring 71 off 128. Harry Brook failed to be impactful with his bat and could amass three runs off 12 balls. Sundar got rid of him with the assistance of Dhruv Jurel, who stumped the 26-year-old.
However, captain Ben Stokes and Root caused a headache to India bowlers as both stitched a 142-run stand together for the fifth wicket. Root went on to score 150 and with this innings, he surpassed legends such as Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Rahul Dravid to become the second-highest run-getter in the red-ball format of the sport. With the century, he also equalled Kumar Sangakkara’s record of 38 Test hundreds. Ravindra Jadeja ended the 34-year-old’s superb knock. Jasprit Bumrah stood tall against Jamie Smith, who could chip in with only nine runs.
England lead by 186 runs after the third day of 4th Test
After the third day’s play, England are now 186 runs ahead of Shubman Gill’s men. On the fourth day, India will have to dismiss Ben Stokes and Liam Dawson, who will look to accumulate more runs for their side to take the game away from the visitors as far as possible. After the third day’s play, England have hoarded 544/7 in 135 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah, who has been a stellar performer in the tournament, has also struggled to damage the English side in this game. He could pick up only one wicket after bowling 28 overs in the match. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar emerged as the most-impactful bowlers for India as both spinners got two wickets each.
