England’s County Championship has taken a dig at India batting maestro amidst the reports of the 36-year-old’s retirement from Test cricket. On May 10, some sources revealed that the star player has conveyed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the former is pondering hanging boots from red-ball cricket. Following the development, Kohli’s fans started requesting him to serve India for a few more years in the international circuit. However, time will reveal whether Kohli will retire from Test cricket or extend his tenure with the two-time World Test Championship (WTC) finalists.
Noting Kohli’s retirement rumours, the County Championship, shared a compilation of some batters getting bold on deliveries on difficult England and Wales pitches. Captioning the post, the County Championship wrote, “We don't blame you Virat.” The post was dedicated to Virat to pass the message that he is considering retirement after getting intimidated to travel to England for the upcoming five-match Test series to be played from June to August.
Virat Kohli’s Test record in England
Virat Kohli has constantly struggled to bat in tough English conditions in Tests. Touring England between 2014 to 2022, he has scored only 1096 runs with two hundreds and five fifties in 33 innings of 17 games. His average is only 33.21. However, it was under his captaincy, India succeeded in avoiding a Test series loss on English soil for the first time after 2007.
In the 2021-22 Test series between both sides, India recorded 2-2 figures after competing in four games. India will start their upcoming England tour on June 20 and before that, the side will have to appoint the skipper as Rohit Sharma announced retirement from the longest form of the sport on May 7.
