Marc-Andre ter Stegen is a German international goalkeeper, who has been the wall of FC Barcelona for many years until now. The 33-year-old joined FC Barcelona in 2014 for a reported transfer fee of €12 million. Since then, he has played a very vital role in various trophy winning campaigns for Barcelona. However, recently there was a breakdown in relations between ter Stegen and FC Barcelona as the goalkeeper refused to sign a medical report authorisation for La Liga following his recent surgery.

This medical authorisation was reportedly wanted by FC Barcelona to put forward and register his injury as a long term one so that the club could temporarily reduce his wages under the salary cap rules. However, ter Stegen declined to sign the authorisation which led to disciplinary action being taken by the club and the German international was immediately stripped off from his captaincy. According to the latest developments, ter Stegen has resolved the issues with Barcelona and agreed to sign the medical authorisation after which the club immediately returned the captaincy to the 33-year-old German goalkeeper.

Ter Stegen has signed the authorisation for the club's medical services: Barca

The official statement from FC Barcelona on the matter read, “The Club announces that the player Marc-André ter Stegen has signed the authorisation necessary for the Club to send La Liga the medical report relating to his surgery. The disciplinary case has been closed and the player is captain of the first team once again with immediate effect.”

FC Barcelona are hopeful that they will be able to use the absence of ter Stegen from injury to register new signings, while he will keep the captaincy for now. However, the captaincy will not be retained for a long period as the players are expected to vote for their next captain in the locker room ahead of the new campaign. It will be interesting to see who will become the next captain for FC Barcelona.
