Jose Mourinho, the manager of Fenerbahce, has filed a lawsuit against fellow Turkish club Galatasaray from Istanbul after they had accused him of talking like a racist. The Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray made an accusation that the 62-year-old made racist statements after a 0-0 in the Istanbul derby on Monday, February 24, and following a four-match ban and fine imposed by Turkish Football Federation (TFF), the Portuguese filed a lawsuit against the city rivals.
Notably, as per the report from BBC Sport, the lawsuit from Jose Mourinho on Galatasaray is worth 1,907,000 Turkish Lira (£41,000), symbolic to the founding of Fenerbahce in 1907, who have already stated that the comments of their manager were taken completely out of context. The case is filed in court through the lawyers of the club the Portuguese currently manages, and it is “due to the attack on the personal rights” of him.
If you were a referee, this match would be a disaster: Jose Mourinho to Turkish official
Following the conclusion of the Istanbul derby, Jose Mourinho wasn’t mincing his words about the fourth official in the match, who belonged to Turkey. He was quoted as saying about him, “after the big dive in the first minute and their bench jumping like monkeys on the top of the kid... with a Turkish referee you would have a yellow card after one minute and after five minutes I would have to change [substitute] him”.
Furthermore, Jose Mourinho also spoke about how he went to the dressing room of the referees after the Istanbul derby, where he told the Turkish fourth official, “If you were a referee, this match would be a disaster”. This led to the TFF banning him for four matches on account of two separate disciplinary matters apart from fining him £35,194, which would mean that he won’t be at the touchline for Fenerbahce for majority of March.
