For the first time in history, the mighty Australians have lost four back-to-back matches in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup and are currently on a two-game losing streak in the ongoing World Cup in India. While the Aussies lost their first match against India by six wickets, they lost their second game against South Africa by 134 runs. Ahead of their third match against Sri Lanka, who are also winless in the tournament after playing two matches, former India spinner and current commentator, Harbhajan Singh slammed Australia's Glenn Maxwell in a pre-match show.
Australia, who were once unbeaten in 34 consecutive matches between 1999 and 2011, failed to reach a total of 200 runs in their opening two matches in the CWC 2023. During the match against India, Australia were bundled out on 199 while the Proteas bowled out the five-time World Cup winners at 177.
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been criticised by experts and fans for his "flop" performances in the World Cup so far. The 35-year-old Maxwell, who scored 18 runs and picked up two wickets in two matches, scored 15 off 25 against India and failed to take any wickets. On the other hand, Maxwell picked up two wickets against South Africa but failed to score big as he was dismissed on three runs off 17 balls.
Considering his bad form, Harbhajan Singh slammed Maxwell ahead of the World Cup match between Australia and Sri Lanka in a pre-match show by saying, "For people, he may be a Big Show. For me, he is a flop show."
Talking about the match between Australia and Sri Lanka, both teams will look to end their victory drought in the World Cup. In their previous 11 ODI World Cup head-to-head fixtures, Australia dominated the matchup with eight wins while Sri Lanka won just two matches, and one game ended without a result.
