While the side announced on Friday had some surprising calls both in terms of snub and maiden call-ups, this decision of the BCCI has got into much notice after several cricketer and former greats of the game have hit back at the Indian board. Amid many such is Indian cricketer Abhinav Mukund. The 33-year-old cricketer, who hails from Tamil Nadu has hit back at the BCCI and the selectors for picking players on the basis of their performance in the Indian Premier League 2023.

“Unable to understand these selections- too many thoughts in my head to compile into a tweet. But what is the incentive for a young player to take pride in playing for his state anymore? Clearly, the franchise route is a faster way to scale the grade,” Mukund wrote on Twitter.

Notably, this tweet for the cricketer comes after a debate over the absence of domestic stars like Sarfaraz Khan, Abhimanyu Easwaran to name a few in the Test squad.

Talking about the Indian squad, while RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and CSK star player Ruturaj Gaikwad were picked over the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara in the squad after their brilliant performance in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League.
