The Final test between India vs England is underway at the Oval. The England National team won the toss and decided to bowl first. England have taken the front foot in the fifth test as they have already clinched three crucial wickets of the top order of India. Yashasvi Jaiswal went down early into the innings as the latest addition to the English squad Gus Atkinson provided the breakthrough for England. Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have also been sent back to the pavilion as they were unable to continue the form that they displayed in Manchester.
Currently, India are five down on day one of the fifth Test. Ahead of the match, the Indian legend and commentator Sunil Gavaskar shared his honest views on the pitch which has been developed at the Oval for the fifth test. Gavaskar stated that the pitch at the Oval has been left with a lot of grass to help the rather weak bowling lineup of the England team in the fifth test after a lot of changes have been made to the team coming into the fifth test.
England don’t have much of a bowling attack: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar made his views clear on the pre-match show on sony sports network. He stated, “They don’t have much of a bowling attack. This is why they have made such a pitch. Stokes has taken wickets, Archer has taken wickets and Carse has taken wickets. If they are not in your team, who will take wickets? This is why they have made such a pitch so that it helps bowlers like Tongue and Co.”
England had made several changes coming into the fifth test with the likes of their Captain Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse being left out of the squad. Stokes was the leading wicket taker in the series until now. However, his shoulder injury forced him to opt out of the final test and Jofra Archer was rested to manage his workload after recovering from an injury due to which he was out for four years. Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue and Jamie Overton have been added as replacements for the English team.
