After finishing with a record-best medal tally at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India will aim to breach the mark and setup a new record at the upcoming Summer Games. The 2024 edition of the Summer Games will be played in the French capital, Paris from July 26 till August 11.
As we look forward to the 2024 Paris Olympics, in this article, we’ll take a recap of the gold medal wins for India. India have so far won 10 gold medals at the Olympics. Here, eight out of the 10 have come in team events, predominantly, men’s hockey, whereas the other two have been individual golds from Abhinav Bindra and Neeraj Chopra.
The Indian hockey team won India’s first Olympics gold in the year 1928 in Amsterdam. From here on, the men’s hockey team began their reign at the top. They then went onto win a gold at the Los Angeles 1932, followed by another gold medal finish in Berlin 1936. The Indian hockey team continued their domination, clinching a gold at London 1948, Helsinki 1952 and Melbourne 1956. Furthermore, at Tokyo 1964, the Indian men’s hockey team went on to break Pakistan’s winning streak and once again claimed the gold.
The Indian hockey team’s last gold medal win came at the Moscow 1980. However, Abhinav Bindra got India’s first individual gold, winning it at the Beijing 2008 Olympics in 10m air rifle. The tenth and the last so far came in the last edition of the Olympics, which were held in Tokyo in 2021, where Neeraj Chopra announced his arrival on the big stage and clinched India’s first gold medal in track and field.
