Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lashed out after spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was snubbed from India’s squad against Afghanistan on October 11, Wednesday. After opening their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on a winning note against Australia, the Men in Blue locked horns against Afghanistan on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. For their second match in the tournament, India made a big change in the squad, swapping Ashwin with Shardul Thakur.

With the Indian spinning wizard being snubbed once again, the Little Master couldn’t hide his frustration and lashed out at the management for the same. The 1983 World Cup winner was speaking to the broadcaster after the toss where he said that he is used to being benched out of the team.

The former cricketer spoke to StarSports and said, “Once again Ashwin misses out, I don't know what he has done wrong. He is used to being left out of the team. I thought what Shami had done against them in 2019, getting a hat-trick, he would get a go.”

Speaking of the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma lost the toss to his rival captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, who opted to bat first. Apart from bringing Thakur in for Ashwin, the rest of the Indian line-up remained the same for the 1983 and 2011 world champions. By the end of the 23rd over, Afghanistan had put up 93 runs on the scoreboard at the loss of three wickets.
