On Saturday, January 18, the Chairman of national selection committee Ajit Agarkar, along with Team India’s Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma announced 15-member preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be played in February-March in Pakistan and the UAE. While Jasprit Bumrah got named in the squad despite injury struggles, he also took the limelight during the much-anticipated Coldplay concert in Mumbai.
To everyone’s surprise, Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin decided to surprise his fans during the concert at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, January 18 as he opted to give a shoutout to the Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. The moment came when Chris Martin was performing on the famous song ‘A sky full of stars’.

As the song was going on, Martin quickly took the mic and told the fans that they would have to end the show quickly as Bumrah wants to come backstage and play cricket. He also joked that Bumrah wanted to bowl at him. "Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage. He (Bumrah) says he needs to bowl at me now,” Chris Martin was caught saying during the Mumbai concert.

Although, seeing Chris Martin give a shoutout to the star Indian pacer, fans got excited as they felt Bumrah might show up on the stage, however that wasn’t the case. The 31-year-old Indian pacer is currently nursing a back injury which he sustained during the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia. However, he featured in all five Test, he was forced to miss the second Indian innings due to back spasm in Sydney.
The Ahmedabad-born player is set to mark his return in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, however, his participation in the three-match ODI series against England remains subject to fitness. Bumrah will undergo scans on February 2 as reported by several sources to further assess on his fitness.
