The big managerial saga around Carlo Ancelotti has finally come to an end after it was officially announced that Ancelotti is set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the current season and will join the Brazil national team. In light of this, Bayer Leverkusen’s current manager and former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has been named to take over the reins at the Bernabeu. While speaking to the media during the pre-match conference before Madrid’s upcoming match against Mallorca in LaLiga, Ancelotti spoke about his exit from the club and Xabi Alonso’s appointment as well.
Speaking about his exit, Ancelotti acknowledged the fact that all clubs need a change after some time and even coaches need change. Despite that, he reiterated the fact that he will always be grateful to Real Madrid and proud to have coached the team for six years in total. He said, “I will be a Real Madrid fan for the rest of my life. I never thought I’d be coach for 6 years. I have to thank the club.” A few journalists also asked Ancelotti about what advice he would like to pass on to his successor Xabi Alonso.
Ancelotti to leave as manager with most number of title wins in Real Madrid’s history
Ancelotti calmy replied to these questions by saying that Alonso does not need any advice from his side and that he is a capable manager to take over Real Madrid on his own. He said, “Xabi Alonso doesn’t need any advice from me as he’s a great manager. He has everything to become a top, top coach.” Such words of praise coming from a manager of Ancelotti’s stature is a big thing for Xabi Alonso. However, Alonso has earned all this praise from the footballing world after his heroics with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, including a historic unbeaten run spanning 51 matches.
On the other hand, Ancelotti will also be leaving Los Blancos with another historic feat, as he will become the manager to have won the most number of titles in Real Madrid’s history. Having managed the club over two different tenures, Ancelotti has won 15 trophies at Real Madrid, including three Champions Leagues and two LaLiga titles.
