West Indies lost to Scotland by nine wickets in their Super Six qualifier game in Harare on July 1, Saturday. With this loss, West Indies are now out of the World Cup 2023 race, slated to be organised in India from October 5 to November 19. This is the 13th edition of the tournament, and it will be for the first time that the two-time champions won’t be a part of the mega ICC event. Oman, sitting at the bottom of the standings, has already been eliminated while Scotland can make it to the tournament if they meet certain requirements.

Zimbabwe, West Indies and the Netherlands qualified for Super Six from Group A while Sri Lanka, Oman and Scotland joined from Group B. In the Super Six, each team will clash against the team they didn’t play against in the group stage, and the top two teams will make it to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. To make it to the biggest ICC tournament, Scotland needs to win games against Netherlands and Zimbabwe to reach eight points. It is to be noted that Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have better NRR than Scotland. Hence, it will be better if Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe on July 2, Sunday, and Zimbabwe will stay at six pts itself.

Speaking of the tournament, the inaugural match of the 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup will be played between the reigning champions England and runners-up, New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The 2011 World Cup winners will begin their campaign against Australia on October 8, in Chennai.
