The ODI World Cup in the 1999 edition returned back to England after a period of 16 years and the Indian team once again played under the leadership of Azharuddin for the third consecutive time in the ODI World Cup. The Indian team weren't able to repeat the 1983 WC magic at the England venue as they weren't able to go past the Super Six stage of the World Cup tournament.

South Africa, India, and Zimbabwe qualified for the next stage (Super Six) in the tournament.

India didn't carry forward any points while entering the Super Six stage (from 2 games) as they lost to both South Africa and Zimbabwe.

From Group B top three sides Pakistan, Australia, and New Zealand qualified for the next stage (super six) of the tournament.

    Hence, Pakistan stand above Australia and Australia stand above South Africa in the points table.

As we saw from the above point, the Indian team didn't carry forward any points to the Super Six stage while in the remaining three games of the Super Six, India managed to win only against Pakistan and lost their remaining two matches to Australia and New Zealand.

Top-4 teams (PAK, AUS, SA, NZ) from the Super Six table qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.
