England’s former fast bowling legend James Anderson has revealed how he felt when he saw his name alongside the Team India legend Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, following the Pataudi Trophy rechristened as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Earlier, the England versus India Test series was named after former India skippers Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Last month, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) renamed it as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, to pay tribute to the two living legends from both distinguished Test-playing nations.

Revealing his feelings in detail, Anderson said he felt completely out of place when he witnessed his name alongside the trophy. "I feel completely out of place when I see myself alongside him with the trophy. As I said, I hold him in such high regard. It is strange that when people talk about what I have achieved in cricket, like when I hear about it, as if someone's talking about someone else, if that makes sense," remarked Anderson while speaking to Sky Sports.

James Anderson’s international Test career and records against Sachin Tendulkar

James Anderson served England for 22 years from 2002 to 2024 and during the vast period, he played 188 Tests and grabbed 704 wickets in 350 innings. With these numbers, he is the most-successful Test bowler for the English team. In 2024, he played his last Test match of his career against the West Indies at the iconic Lord’s and retired from international cricket.

Talking about his Test records against Tendulkar, he has faced the India legend in 23 innings and has got the better of him on nine occasions. Tendulkar has accumulated 208 runs against the England speedster with 34 fours. Tendulkar hung his boots from international cricket in November 2013, after playing his final Test against the Windies side at the distinguished Wankhede Stadium. Anderson, who still hasn’t retired from competitive cricket yet, will be seen playing for Manchester Originals in The Hundred 2025.
