Star Indian batter Virat Kohli has unadoubtedly been one of the best cricketers and has proved his worth time and again over the years. Although, he might not be in his prime always and so was visible in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025 and Champions Trophy, but he has played crucial knocks at times. He recently revealed his side of story after the BCCI proposed travel restrictions on the players.
Notably, the Indian cricket board in their 10-point diktat refrained players to bring their families on international tours, which became one of the key talking points. In Kohli’s recent interaction at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli took a jibe at BCCI over these restrictions.
I don't want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk: Virat Kohli
As he expressed disappointment, he said, “It is very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to come back to your family every time you have something intense happening on the outside." “I don’t think people have an understanding of what value it brings. I feel quite disappointed about that. People who have no control over what is going on are kind of brought into conversations and put out in the forefront. Maybe they need to be kept away," Kohli added.
"If you ask any player, do you want your family to be around you all the time? You'll be like, yes. I don't want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk. I want to be able to be normal. And then you can really treat your game as something that is a responsibility. You finish that responsibility, and you come back to life,” the 36-year-old continued, while speaking at the RCB Innovational Lab Indians Sports Summit. .
Speaking of the BCCI directives, according to the rule, players’ children and spouse can join only after first two weeks of the tour of over 45 days. However, on shorter tours, the families are allowed with the players for upto a week.
The star Indian batter, who lifted the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 with the Indian team, will next return to the field in RCB colours in IPL 2025. The Bengalurur-based franchise will kickstart their campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday, March 22 at the Eden Gardens.
