Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, the father of Yuvraj Singh, congratulated the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the selection committee after the announcement of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad. The 66-year-old talked about the importance of not leaving out Indian stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli despite their poor showing in recent matches, stating that dropping these kinds of players will make the team fall apart.
Notably, ahead of the Champions Trophy squad announcement, Yograj Singh was quite apprehensive about the exclusion of big players from the Indian cricket team, and according to him, it wouldn’t have done them any favours. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had performed quite poorly in the last two Test series that India played against New Zealand at home and Australia down under, which had raised questions about their spot in the team regardless of the formats.
I really want to congratulate the BCCI and selectors: Yograj Singh on CT 2025 squad
While speaking exclusively to ANI, Yograj Singh talked at length about the Indian cricket team for the Champions Trophy in regard to the big players getting picked in it. He said, “I really want to congratulate the BCCI and selectors who supported the team. I have always said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should not be dropped. If you drop them, then your team will fall apart. We may have lost in Australia, but we should not forget that we have beaten them in two series too.”
Yograj Singh also backed the big players in the Indian cricket team, including names like Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, who he thought were in line to get dropped. He remarked, “I was worried that 5-6 people might be dropped - Shubman or Virat could be among them. I was supporting them, so I think this is the best thing that has happened. I want to congratulate the board, the think tank, and the selectors. I appreciate these people.”
