Ruben Amorim, the Manchester United manager, has praised midfielder Mason Mount for scoring a brace in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) semi-finals second leg against Athletic Bilbao, winning it 4-1 at Old Trafford and clinching their place in the final of the tournament with a 7-1 aggregate result. After the conclusion of the match, the 40-year-old stated that Mason Mount is quite a versatile footballer, and he is “really happy for him” after his impressive performance on the night.

After winning the first leg of the UEL semi-finals in Spain by 3-0 a week ago, Manchester United were put under exceeding pressure by Athletic Bilbao in the first half. The visitors took the lead on the night with an excellent strike from Mikel Jauregizar in the 31st minute, beating Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who could only tip it into the back of the net with his outstretched left hand.

With that 1-0 lead, Athletic Bilbao became more adventurous, allowing Manchester United to hit them on the counter attacks, but until after the hour mark, the hosts weren’t able to finish their chances. Mason Mount was brought in as substitute, and he made instant impact by levelling the score at 1-1 after putting the ball in the back of the net on the turn in the 72nd minute, which was his first goal at Old Trafford.

Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund made it 3-0 for Manchester United just a few minutes later, and the exclamation point on the contest was the goal from Mason Mount in the second half stoppage time. The Englishman managed to put the ball in an empty net after Julen Agirrezabala wrongly passed the ball straight in his path in the midfield.

He can be a midfielder, he can run like a winger, he can play with his back to the goal: Amorim on Mount

While speaking with TNT Sports, Ruben Amorim was quoted as saying about Mason Mount, “It's important for every player [to return]..But when you see that kind of guy working hard every day, eating well, resting, ice bath. He does everything. When you have this kind of player, you just want to help them. When you have this kind of player, you just want to help them. The quality that he has, like you said, it's perfect for that position.”

“He can be a midfielder, he can run like a winger, he can play with his back to the goal. I'm really happy for him,” Manchester United manager added.
