India are currently trailing by 1-2 in the ongoing five-match Test series against England. The visitors recently ended up losing the third Test by a close margin of 22 runs on day five at the iconic Lords Cricket Ground. Although India gave a tough fight and dominated most of the time in a five-day contest, England held their nerves in the final to script a memorable win and take a lead of 2–1 in the series.
After India’s defeat at Lords, former England captain David Lloyd came up with a bold statement regarding star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, the Indian team management confirmed before the start of the Test series that Bumrah will play only three out of five matches. The right-arm pacer was featured in the first and the third Test and was rested in the second Test in Birmingham. Talking about the result, the only Test India in this series so far was in Birmingham.
If India are true to their word, Bumrah should play at Old Trafford: David Lloyd
The fourth Test match between England and India will be played at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Greater Manchester from July 23 to 27. India need to win this game to level the series by 2-2 and take it to the decider at the Oval. As India are on the verge of losing the series, the major question among the fans is that whether Jasprit Bumrah will play both the Test matches or just one.
“If they (India) are true to their words, he (Bumrah) should play this next game at Old Trafford. But then, you know, they can manoeuvre that, can't they? If he plays this next one at Old Trafford and they get a result to make it 2-2, you'd think he'd play at The Oval as well. I'm second-guessing, but I think he'll play this next game and see where they are. If England go 3-1, he won't play. But if it's 2-2, he will play at the Oval," David Lloyd said in his conversation with TalkSport Cricket.
"That's extraordinary. There was something that said when he plays they lose more than when he doesn't play, and he is like the best bowler in the world. And he is awkward and nasty with his action, but a thoroughly decent fella," Lloyd further said while taking a jibe at Bumrah.
