Middle distance runner Parvej Khan, who came into limelight after his showstopping performances at the American Collegiate circuit in men’s 800, and 1500m events, has been handed a six-year ban. Khan, who also became the first Indian track athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships in Boston was handed a ban on Monday, August 18 after a sanction by NADA’s Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel.

Notably, the 19-year-old runner has been penalised on two counts, which has forced him to sit out for a period of six years. As per the statement from ADDP, which is dated August 12, 2025, the 19-year-old long-mile runner has been tested positive for a non-specified substance ‘erythropoitin’ (EPO) in the sample, which returned of combinations of three missed tests or filing failures on 12 May 2023, 10 July 2023 and 5 December 2023.

Parvej Khan found guilty on two counts; gets six-year ban

After missed tests in a span of 12 months, the ADDP panel comprising of Chairperson Charu Pragya and members Dr. Bikash Medhi and Archana Surve held Parvej liable for sanction under Article 10.2.1.1 and Article 10.9. While the Article 10.2.1.1 implies for an ineligibility period of four years for returning an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for EPO, the 10.9 Article is for multiple violations.

“Since the athlete had been provisionally suspended, the panel accordingly holds that the athlete’s period of ineligibility for 6 years shall commence from the date on which the notification was sent, i.e. 28.08. 2024,” the order by the Panel read. “All other competitive results obtained by the athlete from the date of sample collection, i.e., 27.06.2024, shall be disqualified with all resulting consequences, including forfeiture of medals, points and prizes,” the statement further read.

As a result, Parvej’s gold medal in the 1500m race at the 63 rd National Inter State Senior Athletics Meet in Panchkula has been forfeited. All the other results obtained during that period stand null and void at the moment.
