Before the start of the five-match Test series against England, Team India are testing their preparation with a four-day intra-squad game game against India A in Kent. India will look to start their World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle confidently with a series triumph in English conditions. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, the two-time WTC runners-up will look to give a tough time to the home side and record their first red-ball series win on English soil after 18 years. Before the much-awaited game, some India players were seen in action as they represented India A against England Lions.
Now, a week ahead of the opening Test in Leeds, India players were seen maintaining silence and wearing armbands before the start of the intra-squad game in Kent. They paid homage to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash that took place on June 12. According to media sources, 241 passengers travelling to London from Air India flight have lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Can India beat England in Leeds after 23 years?
Team India haven’t won any Test match against England in Leeds for the last 23 years. Their last victory at the venue came in 2002. Under Sourav Ganguly, India beat the Nasser Hussain-led English side by an innings and 46 runs. Talking about India’s overall Test record at the venue, they have played seven games in which they got success in only two.
In their last meeting at Headingley in 2021, England emerged victorious by an innings and 76 runs. Batting in the first innings, Virat Kohli and his men got folded at a score of 78. James Anderson and Craig Overton decimated India’s batting attack, picking up a three-wicket haul apiece.
