The inaugural season of the highly anticipated International Masters League (IML), will be played across three venues in Navi Mumbai, Rajkot, and Raipur in India from February 22 to March 16 this year. There will be six teams in the IML, namely India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, South Africa, and West Indies, captained by some of the legendary players the world of cricket has ever seen, including names like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.
Notably, the three venues for the first edition of the International Masters League are D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, and the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. While India will be captained by Sachin Tendulkar, some of the other leaders of their respective teams are Brian Lara (West Indies), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka), Shane Watson (Australia), Eoin Morgan (England), and Jacques Kallis (South Africa).
International Masters League promises to showcase cricket in all its glory
The members of the International Masters League governing council were announced last year, and it comprised names like Sunil Gavaskar, who is the league commissioner, while his two other famous compatriots are Sir Viv Richards, and Shaun Pollock. In his recent statement about the IML, Sunil Gavaskar was quoted as saying, “The International Masters League promises to showcase cricket in all its glory, as it brings together some of the finest players to ever grace the game.”
In their statement to the press, International Masters League stated that the likes of Gavaskar, Richards, and Pollock will “oversee the strategic direction, rules, and operations of the IML, ensuring that the league remains a premier platform where heritage meets entertainment and the sport's masters deliver unparalleled excitement to fans worldwide.”
