Amid the India-Pakistan crisis in the border regions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for a week on Friday, May 9. Shortly after, a report has emerged wherein it is stated that all the 10 IPL franchises are working on the travel plans for their squads and rest of the members, with the Indian players starting to head home, while the overseas players are set to go to their respective countries as well.
As per the Times of India report, the IPL franchises, in collaboration with the BCCI, will be assisting the overseas players in regards to flying them out of the country to their home lands. This is especially after the match 58th of the IPL 2025 got called off midway due to security concerns at the Himachal Pradesh International Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala, leaving the players from overseas in panic in all the teams.
Every foreign player and members of the support staff will be headed back to their respective country: IPL official
The IPL official, who is privy to the situation, was quoted as saying to the aforementioned Indian news website, “They will be heading back home, we will help with all the logistics but every foreign player and members of the support staff will be headed back to their respective country.. Depending on what is decided in the future, a call will be taken on them returning for the league. But as of now, they will be headed back home.”
Moreover, in the same report, an IPL team official also mentioned that all the players will be headed back home, including the overseas players. With the departure of all the players to the safety of their houses, it is highly likely that the IPL 2025 season might get postponed to the latter half of the year, which has been the case due to COVID-19 pandemic a few years ago.
With just 16 matches remaining in the IPL 2025, it will be interesting to see when the BCCI is able to find a two-week window on the calendar to get the tournament concluded.
