The Indian Premier League mega auction for the 2025 season is likely to be held overseas, as the previous season. The BCCI will likely announce the set of rules and regulations for the mega auction in the coming days. Notably, the IPL has hosted two major auctions over the last decade at four years of intervals, first in 2014 and another in 2018, where Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings made their comeback after serving a ban of two years.

As per the reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning to hold it overseas, most likely in the Middle East either in the second week of November or in the third week of December. While there is no confirmation yet, reports suggest that the Indian cricket regulating body will organise the auction in the Middle East with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Doha being considered.

IPL 2025 auction to be held in late November or early December: Source

Sources close to the BCCI have confirmed that the auction is expected to be held either at the end of November or early December. The BCCI source told IANS, “The IPL 2025 auction will be scheduled for late November or early December this year. The rules will be released in the next couple of days.” Another source close to the board told Sportstar, “It’s either going to be around November 16-17 or sometime between December 15 and 20. The BCCI operations team is currently exploring the options.”

The sources have indicated that a formal communication stating the rules of the auction, could be sent out to the franchises by the end of the week or next week. And as the board is planning to hold the auction abroad, the franchises would need to get their respective plans and logistical plans in place for the same.
