Just days after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended for a week with immediate effect, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is back in talks, hoping to resume it in the coming week after India and Pakistan agreed on ceasefire. It is to be noted that the tournament came to a standstill seeing the escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

Moreover, the match number 58, which was played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, also came to an abrupt end, forcing the BCCI to take quick action to safeguard the players, support staff members, along with the spectators.

BCCI to seek government approval before resuming IPL 2025; confirms Secretary Devajit Saikia

While a clarity will be transpired on IPL 2025 resumption in the next 48 hours, the BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has also opened up on the same. "The BCCI suspended the IPL yesterday for a period of seven days, and, today, we are on the second day with five more days left. The BCCI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and developments, and will take a call on IPL resumption after consulting all stakeholders of IPL and the concerned Government authorities," Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz.

"Given the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalising the time for its restart. BCCI will duly announce the date of IPL restart once the whole process is over in due course of time," he clarified while adding that a conclusion will come out after high-stakes meeting in next 48 hours.

With 58 matches done in the tournament and 16 more left to see a winner in IPL 2025, the BCCI along with the IPL General Council will look for a suitable window to resume the tournament. While some reports have added that they are mulling to resume it by next Thursday or Friday, it is also being speculated that the cash-rich league matches will be held pan-India, barring Dharamsala.
