IPL which started in 2008 and completed 15 editions successfully in May 2022. The current valuation of the biggest T20 tournament in the world has surpassed $10 billion and have got the status of Decacorn. As per reports, the value of IPL recorded a 75% growth since 2020 and currently its valuation stands at $10.9 billion. In 2020, the T20 league valuation was said to be around $6.2 billion.

The major reason touted for the growth of valuation in IPL 2022 is said to be due to the inception of two new sides (Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants) which was bought at a value of $1.6 billion. Notably, the average price tag of team has seen 16-fold jump since the inception period (2008). IPL has been the second largest sporting league based on per match basis from the broadcasting fees. Another major reason is also the growth of OTT which saw the media rights being split among different broadcasters which helped them to register a three-fold increase in this cycle compared to 2017. 

As per reports, IPL 2022 viewership hit a new high of 426 million views in both Television and OTT. The renewed media rights has played a big part in huge jump for the valuation of Indian Premier League in 2022. The value of IPL which was considered to be 51,000 crores (INR) in 2021 has saw a huge jump to 91,000 crores in 2022.
