The Free Fire India launch is now uncertain in the country as Garena shifted its focus towards Free Fire Max, announcing the INR 1 crore tournament for the game. The Free Fire India launch has been on hold since September 2023, and Garena has not provided any reason for this much delay as of now. According to the reports, Garena has shut down one of its game studios in India, and with all this, the launch of the game is now unlikely in the near future.
On August 31, 2023, Garena announced Free Fire India and its launch on September 5, 2025. This news was like music to the ears of lakhs of Free Fire fans waiting for the launch of the game since 2022, but it turned out to be just a week of happiness, as Garena issued the delay of release, and as of now, almost two years later, the game is still on hold. Notably, Garena has not provided any reasons for the delay till now.
Is the Free Fire India Launch Cancelled? Garena Promotes Free Fire Max Instead
Recently, Garena announced the Free Fire Max India Cup 2025 with a prize pool of INR 1 crore. This marks the revival of esports in Free Fire Max in India. Before this, Garena hosted the Free Fire Max Booyah Awards 2025 in Kolkata—the first-ever offline award show for the game. In recent times, developers have shifted their focus towards Free Fire Max.
Now, fans are questioning if the Free Fire India launch is cancelled, as Garena shifted its focus towards Free Fire Max. Well, this cannot be all wrong, as according to Rishi Alwani, Garena has shut down its Pune-based Versus Game Studio, and developers are not providing any hints or official statements on the status of the Free Fire India release.
It's really good for the esports community as Free Fire Max esports returns to India. The Free Fire Max India Cup 2025 will run from July 13 to September 28.
However, Garena has not announced anything about if the game is coming or not, so we need to wait for it.
