Former New Zealand coach and Royal Challengers Bangalore director of cricket, Mike Hesson, has been appointed the head coach of Islamabad United. The Pakistan Super League franchise has won two titles in 2016 and 2018 under the tutelage of the late Dean Jones, former Australian batter.

But since their last title, Islamabad has failed to reach the final of the tournament and finished third in the 2023 season behind Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. Similarly, Islamabad United have had multiple coaches like  Misbah-ul-Haq, Johan Botha, and most recently Azhar Mahmood but are still awaiting their third title.

Talking about his new team, Hesson expressed excitement with the prospect of coaching in the PSL and hopes to experience the high-quality cricket of this tournament. He said, "I am delighted to be a part of Islamabad United.  The professional, modern, and dimagh se (mindful) approach associated with the franchise resonates strongly with me."
