Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam is going through a lean patch nowadays as he has failed to be among the runs. After the dry run in international cricket, Babar was expected to shine with his bat for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. However, appearing for Zalmi in a couple of matches, the 30-year-old looked completely underconfident and lost his wicket after scoring in single digits. Competing against Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United, he scored 0 (2) and 1 (3) respectively. His ineffective batting performance also impacted Peshawar as they lost both games by massive margins. His underwhelming performance as batter and captain has landed him in trouble as fans are venting out their anger against him on social media.
During Babar Azam’s difficult time, Peshawar Zalmi’s batting coach Inzamam-ul-Haq has advised him to be patient with the selection of shots. “Babar, you already have all the cricket shots but to win more matches, you need to wait for the right bowler and the right moment. Don’t try to hit every ball, be patient and smart,” said Inzamam while speaking to Zalmi media.
Pakistan legend also advised fans not to expect Babar to finish games as it’s not the opener’s job to conclude games as a finisher. “Many people want Babar to finish matches but it’s not the opener's role to wind up games. That job is for batters at number four, five, and six. It’s important to understand this fact,” added former Pakistan skipper Inzamam.
Peshawar Zalmi will look to bounce back against Multan Sultans
Following the humiliating defeats in the initial two matches, Peshawar will now be expected to play quality cricket against Multan Sultans on April 19. Like Zalmi, Sultans are also hungry for their maiden victory in the competition. Mohammad Rizwan and his boys received drubbing from Karachi Kings and defending champions Islamabad.
Zalmi will want their batting unit to be disciplined against Multan. In both games, Peshawar’s batters have looked timid which cost the team. In their previous match, only Mohammad Haris displayed fighting spirit against United while chasing a mammoth target of 244 runs.
