Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has hinted that their current manager Xabi Alonso could join his former club Real Madrid in the future. Alonso was at the helm as Leverkusen ended their trophy drought and won the Bundesliga this season in the 29th match by claiming 79 points with 25 wins and four draws.

Throughout this unbeaten run in the 2023-24 season, there have been multiple reports about the Spaniard leaving the German club to join Bayern Munich, Liverpool or Real Madrid. But the 2010 World Cup winner shut down these claims.

Xabi Alonso may become Real Madrid manager: Bayer Leverkusen CEO

Now after clinching the Bundesliga title,  Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro revealed to Spanish publisher  Diario AS that Alonso could eventually manage the Los Blancos. Carro said,  “It’s possible that Xabi Alonso will become Real Madrid manager one day, yes.”

“Many clubs want Alonso, maybe one day he can work for one of them, especially those where he used to play, but he’s happy here now, that’s why he’s staying. Release clause? It’s a confidential matter between us.”

Right now this is the right place: Alonso on staying at Bayer Leverkusen

Talking about Xabi Alonso's decision to stay at  Leverkusen, the two-time Champions League winner, on March 29, confirmed that he will continue to coach Die Schwarzroten. Speaking to the media,  Alonso said,  "I had a very good meeting when I informed them [Leverkusen's directors] of my decision to continue being coach of Bayer Leverkusen."

"For sure all the decisions you need to analyse well. I try to take the right ones, I try to take them in a natural way.  At the moment this is the right place for me to develop as a coach, I am a young coach. Right now this is the right place.  I have to thank the management. The club has been supportive and I feel respected by all departments."
