With just two days remaining until the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester, for the newly minted Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj attended the press conference. When the 31-year-old was asked about the fitness status of his fellow teammate Jasprit Bumrah, he stated that as far as his knowledge on the matter is concerned, his bowling partner will be taking the field for India in the fourth Test.
Notably, after suffering a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year, Jasprit Bumrah, in consultation with the Indian team management, made the decision to play only a certain number of Tests in the five-match series against England this summer. The Indian fast bowler has already skipped the second Test of the series at Edgbaston in Birmingham earlier in the month, but still, there were questions around whether he will miss more matches in the series.
Anshul Kamboj included in India's squad for final two Tests vs England
But now, with the series in favour of England at 2-1, India are desperate to win the fourth Test in Manchester, to level the series going into the final match, and the presence of Jasprit Bumrah in the playing XI could really come in handy in this regard. This is especially because India won’t have pacer Arshdeep Singh available to them for selection in the fourth Test because of a finger injury, getting replaced by Anshul Kamboj in the squad, while Akash Deep’s inclusion in the playing XI isn’t confirmed either due to a back issue.
Moreover, India have already had a massive setback with Nitish Kumar Reddy getting ruled out of the series after suffering a knee injury in the gym in the lead-up to the fourth Test.
