Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, is reportedly expected to miss the first two weeks of action in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season for Mumbai Indians (MI), due to undergoing rehab for his back injury in Bengaluru currently. With that, the 31-year-old is likely to be a part of Mumbai Indians camp at the start of April, which could be a huge blow to MI’s chances of clinching the coveted title for the first time in five seasons.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah is currently working hard on his fitness at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, to make his return to competitive cricket after suffering a back injury in January during the tour to Australia. Due to the injury, the right-arm pacer was not able to make the Indian squad for the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but even in his absence, they have managed to reach the final, as of this writing.

Jasprit Bumrah's medical reports are okay: BCCI source

According to the BCCI source, who talked to the Times of India, Jasprit Bumrah has resumed bowling at the CoE after his medical reports were deemed to be okay. He said, “(Jasprit) Bumrah's medical reports are okay. He has resumed bowling at the CoE. However, it is unlikely he'll be able to bowl at the start of the IPL in another fortnight. As per current status, the first week of April looks a more realistic date for him to get back to high-intensity cricket.”

If the aforementioned scenario plays out, then Jasprit Bumrah might not be able to play the first three or four matches in the IPL 2025 season for MI. The BCCI source also remarked why he hasn’t bowled at his optimum levels yet, “It's standard operating procedure. The medical team will gradually build up his workload and intensity. Unless he is able to bowl full tilt without any discomfort for some days, the medical team is unlikely to clear him.”

Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah is going to be vitally important for India during their next international assignment, which will be a five-match Test series against England away, starting on June 20.
