England Test captain Joe Root is set to miss the white-ball series (T20Is and ODIs) against India, starting next month. While he has not been included in the squad for T20I series, the team management believes that it is the right opportunity to rest the 30-year-old for ODIs also, as part of England’s rotation-policy. All-rounder Chris Woakes is also expected to head back home along with Root.

Joe Root is in red-hot form right now, having smashed 723 runs in 4 Tests in 2021. He scored a fantastic double hundred in the first Test to lead England to a famous win against India. He has comfortably tackled India’s spinners with his technique and approach in the series so far. Although Root is famous for his exploits in the longest format of the game, he is equally impressive in ODIs. He has scored 5962 runs in the 148 ODIs so far, at a scintillating average of 50.1. With the one-day internationals set to be played at MCA Stadium, Root will undoubtedly be missed by the England side on the challenging track in Pune.

Long break for England Test skipper

If the 30-year-old misses the ODIs against India, he won’t be seen playing cricket for close to three months. As he won’t be taking part in IPL 2021 as well, his next assignment could be the Test series against New Zealand, starting from June 2nd onwards. Although he might play some county cricket in England, the fans will definitely miss the charismatic batsman in the ODIs as well as in IPL.

As of now, Joe Root will be focused on leading his side to a series win against India. With the series levelled at 1-1, the action will now shift to Ahmedabad for the last two Tests.
