England players inlcluding the likes of Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, and Jamie Overton are set to miss the remaining season of IPL 2025 as reported by Cricbuzz. Archer plays for Rajasthan Royals (RR), meanwhile, Curran and Overton are a part of CSK this season. However, both of these franchises are out of the playoffs. Reports that other England players Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, and Will Jacks will be back in India to play their remaining IPL games. Livingstone and Bethell plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Jos Buttler and Will Jack play for Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians for this season.
Chennai Super Kings have confirmed the news about Curran and Overton's exit from the rest of the season, and there are no plans of substituting any England players. Meanwhile, RR reported that Archer won't be returning due to his injury. In the official statement, RR said, "It is not a case of not being willing because we are out of reckoning for playoffs. He is nurturing an injury, and we are prioritizing his fitness."
Highlight on how Archer, Curran, and Overton performed in IPL 2025
Looking back at the performance, these three players have showcased good commitment towards their respective franchises. Jofra Archer while in RR played 12 matches and took 11 wicket. All-rounder Sam Curran played five matches for CSK, scoring 114 runs. The highest was 88 against Punjab Kings. Jamie Overton had limited appearances in this season for CSK, playing just three matches with the score of 15 runs.
Understanding the IPL 2025 playoff scenario
With the IPL 2025 season set to resume on May 17, the playoff matches are now the most awaited ones. Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are topping the points table with 16 points each. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings is on the third position with 15 points, and needs one more win to make place in the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians (14 points) and Delhi Capitals (13 points) are facing close fights to gain the fourth position. Lucknow Super Giants (10 points) and KKR (11 points) need one win to gain the spot. However, both franchises need to win all upcoming matches.
