The 16-time WWE champion John Cena is set to make his return to the promotion in September in a blockbuster announcement made on August 21, Monday. The 46-year-old took to his official Twitter account to talk about how he cannot wait to be at WWE Smackdown and shared his excitement about wrestling in front of fans in India during WWE Superstar Spectacle next month.

According to Fox Sports, who broke the news, John Cena will be live and in person at The Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania for the September 1 edition of WWE SmackDown. This will be followed by a highly anticipated welcoming party for the franchise player, at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium, also known as Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad for the WWE Superstar Spectacle on September 8.

John Cena sent out a tweet to share his thoughts on the upcoming return, talking about how he “cannot wait to reunite with the @WWE family live on #Smackdown.” Then, he felt “excited to meet the #WWE Universe in India and wrestle for the FIRST TIME EVER” in the country.

Notably, the last appearance of John Cena in the promotion was a big surprise, when he unexpectedly showed up at The O2 Arena in London during the WWE Money in the Bank PLE on July 1. He talked about his intention of bringing WrestleMania to London, before disposing off Grayson Waller, who had earlier addressed his case for WrestleMania in Australia instead.

Furthermore, the last time John Cena wrestled in WWE was against Austin Theory for the United States Championship at WrestleMania earlier this year in Los Angeles on April 1. He went on to lose the match after the champion used a low blow with the referee’s back turned.
