The Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals continued their dominance at the top of the IPL 2024 points table, registering a two wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After winning the toss, RR invited KKR to bat first with the latter putting up 223 runs on the board.

But with the likes of Jos Buttler and Rovman Powell in the ranks, the Royals successful chased down the total in a last-ball thriller. While the other players had a short stay in the middle, it was Buttler, who shone with his unbeaten 107. The wicketkeeper-batter scored his seventh hundred and surpassed Chris Gayle (six) in the all-time list of players to score most centuries in the IPL.

It is to be noted that on reaching his ton, the England keeper-batter did not bring out his usual celebration with the RR still being in the game.

Keep believing: Jos Buttler after match-winning knock vs KKR

The Player of the Match Jos Buttler spoke of that crucial knock during RR’s two-wicket win against KKR. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Buttler also walked through what keeps him going on the field in such run-chases.

“Keep believing, that was the real key today. I was struggling a bit for rhythm. At times you feel frustrated or you are questioning yourself. I tell myself it’s okay, keep going , you’ll get your rhythm back and try to stay calm. There’s been plenty of times throughout the IPL, you’ve seen crazy things happen,” Jos Buttler said at the post-match presentation.

“Guys like Dhoni and Kohli, the way they still the end and keep believing and I tried to do the same. That’s something Sangakkara has told me a lot - there’s always a breaking point. The worse thing you can do is to not fight and give your wicket away. He just tells me to stay there and at some point, the momentum will change. That’s been a big part of my play over the last few years,” he concluded.
