In match number 63 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the fiver-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) will host the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium in a do-or-die fixture. However, the two teams will be hoping to get a win in order to inch closer to their playoffs berth, the Delhi-based franchise has few things to worry about.
Ahead of the upcoming fixture, DC has been handed a massive setback as their star batter and wicketkeeper-, KL Rahul left the net session midway on the eve of the match. However, no official update on his fitness has been shared by the DC team management, but a delivery from Mukesh hit Rahul on the right knee, forcing him to seek medical attention.
He then left the practice session and did not take the field thereafter, with doubts looming on his availability for the crucial fixture against MI. It is to be noted that if Kl Rahul fails to recover in time for the game, DC is likely to bring back Karun Nair into the XI. Nair, who smashed 89 off 40 balls in DC’s previous match against MI, has then struggled to get runs to his name.
KL Rahul leads run charts of DC in IPL 2025
KL Rahul’s unavailability will only add worries in the DC camp as they look to seal their playoffs spot along with MI. Moreover, it is to be noted that the wicketkeeper-batter has been sensational this season, scoring 493 runs in 11 innings at an average of 61.63 and a strike rate of 148.04. He played a fighting 112* run knock in DC’s previous match Gujarat Titans, however it went in vain with the latter side taking a 10-wicket win.
Speaking of the Capitals, they are currently placed fifth in the IPl 2025 points table with six wins and five losses in 12 games. They have 13 points to their name and with a win in their remaining two fixtures, they will reach to 17 points and seal their place in the playoffs. However, with two matches remaining for MI, a win today will confirm their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs.
