Leicester City, the former Premier League champions, have appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as the new manager of the club on a contract till June 2027. The Dutchman, who has enjoyed managerial success with PSV Eindhoven before taking charge of Manchester United on an interim basis recently, will be replacing Steve Cooper at Leicester City following their weekend’s trip to Gtech Community Stadium to play against Brentford in the Premier League.

Before the arrival of Ruben Amorim as the new head coach of Manchester United, it was Ruud van Nistelrooy, who managed the Red Devils in four matches on a interim basis after the sacking of Erik ten Hag, including two contests against Leicester City at the Old Trafford in the EFL Cup and the Premier League. After getting the better of his new club on both those occasions, the 48-year-old will be looking to change their fortunes in the Premier League, and steer them clear of the relegation picture.

I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic: Ruud van Nistelrooy

The Dutchman will be taking over from Steve Cooper, who was sacked from the top job after just 12 Premier League matches, winning only two and losing six of those, to put them in 16th place in the points table. In his first statement after being appointed as the new manager of Leicester City, he was quite excited about being given the role apart from alluding to the club’s recent success.

“I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive. I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the Football Club,” remarked Ruud van Nistelrooy.
