With the potential departures of Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and Luis Diaz, Liverpool are appearing to make some changes to their side. To achieve an ideal squad this season, they are reportedly now the Premier League’s biggest spenders for their summer spree, now verging on £300 million. Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz for a potential British record of £116 million, while defenders Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have arrived for a combined £70 million.

Liverpool has reached a total agreement in principle to sign striker Hugo Ekitike, in a deal reportedly worth £69 million with Eintracht Frankfurt for an expected six-year contract. According to the reports, the 23-year-old Frenchman is expected to arrive in the UK on Tuesday before having a medical and completing the signing. Post that it is hoped that the player will be able to fly to Asia to join the team on their pre-season tour later this week. Liverpool made this move last week after being reportedly told that Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is not for sale.

Ekitike helped Frankfurt qualify for the Champions League last season

Hugo Ekitike was an unused substitute during his side’s pre-season game against FSV Frankfurt on Saturday. He scored 22 goals in 48 games across all competitions last season for Frankfurt, which ultimately led to their Champions League qualification.

During his stint there, Frankfurt finished third in the Bundesliga last season as well. Only five players bettered Ekitike’s scoring record in the Bundesliga last season, as he provided eight assists. He had 117 shots on goal, more than any player. According to many experts of the game, Ekitike is versatile and not a striker who only feels at home inside the box. His tactical understanding is said to be his biggest strengths, which Liverpool can utilise well.
