In a heartwarming development from the world of football, Liverpool have made an announcement about their plans for a permanent memorial sculpture as a tribute for Portuguese forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Anfield. It has also been decided that the Liverpool players will be wearing shirts with “Forever 20” emblem printed on them in all the matches for the club in the upcoming season.

Notably, it was on July 3 when Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, who was a part of Penafiel in Portugal second division, died in a car accident in the Spanish province of Zamora. It had sent shockwaves in the football community before tributes poured in for both the players from all over the world, while Liverpool ended up retiring the number 20 shirt of Diogo Jota at the club.

Liverpool are planning to hold a minute’s silence apart from a fan mosaic for Diogo Jota during Premier League 2025-26 opener

It is understood that the planned sculpture in the memory of Diogo Jota will be made by using the recycling items left outside Anfield by the fans paying their respects to him. Liverpool have also said that if supporters of the club are interested in honouring the Portuguese with “Diogo J 20” on the back of their shirts, then profits earned from those shirts will go to their charity, the LFC Foundation.

Also, for their first Premier League match of the 2025-26 season against Bournemouth at Anfield on August 15, Liverpool are planning to hold a minute’s silence apart from a fan mosaic for Diogo Jota. Before that, the fans will be able to pay tribute to the Portuguese during their pre-season game against Athletic Bilbao on August 4 at Anfield on August 4, while the Football Association (FA) is set hold talks about tribute for the player when Liverpool take on Crystal Palace at Wembley on August 10 in the Community Shield.
