Tokyo Olympics 2020 bronze medallist and one of the top medal prospects for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Lovlina Borgohain was knocked out of the ongoing Games after a defeat against China’s Li Qian in the women’s 75kg quarterfinals at the North Paris Arena. After her exit from the Summer Games, Lovlina took to social media to share an emotional message, while apologising for the result that did not come in her favour.

Lovlina, who lost by a split decision 1-4 against her Chinese opponent, took to Instagram to extend an apology, writing, “I really want to say sorry to the entire Nation that I couldn’t bring a medal home this time. Especially to the people of Assam who always pray for me no matter what.” She also spoke of working harder to come back stronger the next time. “I will work harder and come back stronger than ever next time. This isn’t over, looking for a fresh start once again,” she added. 

The 26-year-old further went on to extend her appreciation to the coaches, support staff and all associated with her. “I also want to thank all the coaches, support staff, SAI, Assam Government, BFI, Reliance Sports Foundation, IOS sports and all my sponsors for all the support and encouragement they showered on me,” she further added in her post on Instagram.

India’s boxing campaign at 2024 Paris Olympics

The 26-year-old concluded India women’s campaign at the Summer Games, whereas Nishant Dev’s elimination from the men’s 71kg after defeat against Mexico’s Marco Verde concluded the contingent’s Paris Olympics campaign.
