The transfer news of Luis Diaz is reportedly one of the most sought after for this season’s summer window. Bayern Munich pursuing him from and Diaz's reported interested in leaving Anfield has made this transfer as one of the landmark ones, with the former driven by their need for a versatile forward following a series of transfer setbacks. After missing out on targets like Florian Wirtz, who joined Liverpool, Nico Williams, who renewed with Athletic Club, and PSG’s Bradley Barcola, Bayern identified Diaz as the ideal replacement for Leroy Sane, who left for Galatasaray as a free agent.

Now, the weeks of negotiations that saw Bayern’s initial £58.6m bid rejected earlier in July with Liverpool being adamant that Diaz was not for sale, has reportedly bore fruit. According to the reports, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have finalized the transfer of Colombian winger Luis Diaz, with all formal documents counter-signed on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. The £65.5 million deal, which includes add-ons, marks the end of Diaz’s three-and-a-half-year stint at Anfield. Reports also claim that the 28-year-old completed his medical in Munich earlier today and has signed a four-year contract with the Bundesliga champions, set to run until June 2029, with an option for an additional year.

Liverpool initially valued Luis Diaz more than £86 million

While being firm on their stand that Luis Diaz is not for sale, Liverpool initially valued him over £86 million, a move which reportedly intends to reflect his value in Arne Slot’s squad. However, reports claim that Diaz had expressed a desire to depart as early as the summer of 2024, and after failed attempts to extend his contract, which was set to expire in 2027, Liverpool reluctantly agreed to the transfer marking the third largest sale in the club’s history.

Luis Diaz, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 £37.5 million, leaves an impressive legacy at Anfield. In 148 appearances he scored 41 goals and provided 23 assists, with his 17 goals across all competitions in the 2024-25 season marking his most prolific campaign. His 13 Premier League goals played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s title triumph, and his statistical output of 18.3% shot conversion rate, 56 chances created, and 52 completed dribbles underscored his value as a dynamic winger. However, with Liverpool signing forwards Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike this summer, and their reported interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, the club appears poised to regenerate their attack.
