Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene is expecting that the latest rule change will benefit his team against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game to be held at the Wankhede Stadium on April 21. Mumbai, who have played quality cricket this season, are eying the last IPL 2025 playoffs spot and their competition is against DC, who are also looking to cross the round-robin stage after four years. However, rain in Mumbai can emerge as a hurdle for both teams as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the yellow alert for the metropolitan city May 21.

To tackle such a situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come up with the rule that extends the game time by one more hour. Noting this latest measure from BCCI, Jayawardene has hoped that the rule will assist his team. Appearing in the pre-match press conference, when the Sri Lanka legend was asked about the new rule, he remarked, "Obviously the weather has been threatening most of the games, and it's a decision that they've collectively taken. If it helps, it helps, but if you have serious rain, I don't know whether the extra hours are going to help."

MI will look to beat DC to qualify for the playoffs comfortably

If weather fails to play spoilsport in Mumbai, MI will look to hammer DC to win the playoffs last spot convincingly. Both Mumbai and Delhi have played 12 games in the competition but the former are two points ahead of the latter. In case Capitals lose to Hardik Pandya’s side, their playoffs chances will end.

However, if DC emerge victorious, the tournament will become intriguing as both teams will have to win their upcoming games against Punjab Kings (PBKS), who already made it to the playoffs on May 18, along with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
