During a recent interview on Samaa TV, the former Pakistan T20 World Cup winner Shahid Afridi was heard cautioning his son-in-law Shaheen Afridi for calling him father-in-law.

“Sasur, mai tumhare muh se ye dubara na sunu (Father-in-law, I don't want to hear this word from your mouth again),” said Shahid Afridi to Shaheen on the Pakistani Urdu language news channel.

The explanation from Shahid Afridi for not letting Shaheen call him father-in-law was because he won the Legends League Cricket trophy just a day after his son-in-law won the Pakistan Super League. He was quoted as saying, “Log kehte hai Shaadi ke baad enjoyment khatam ho jaati hai. Bilkul nahi hoti aap aur jyada life ko enjoy karte ho aur jab bacche ho jaate hai toh aap life ko aur enjoy karte ho. He has won PSL with Lahore Qalandars. Next day, I won the Legends League Cricket trophy in Qatar.”

Shahid Afridi also detailed his relationship with Shaheen and appreciated the meteoric rise of his son-in-law in the leadership role in the PSL. “I have always been a friend to my wife and daughter. Shaheen is like my son and friend. He is a very good boy and he has surprised me with his captaincy. It is so good to see the maturity in him at such a young age,” Afridi said.

Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi talked about his experience of bowling to Shahid Afridi in the Pakistan Super League a few years ago and remembered the moment he cleaned up his father-in-law in 2017. He said, “When I played against him it was a dream come true feeling for me. I took his wicket.”

Shaheen also mentioned that Shahid Afridi is both his hero and his friend. “He is my role model. He has been the inspiration for me. I have enjoyed Lala’s batting, I used to switch off TV when he used to get out. Ye mere hero hai. He is like my friend,” he quoted.
