After competitive season in 2022, top-seeded badminton players will regroup in Malaysia to kick-start yet another fierce season. Indian men's singles players will start the season with tough draws in the BWF World tour season opener Malaysia Open 2023. HS Prannoy will challenge Lakshya Sen in the first round, while India's prolific shuttler Kidambi Srikanth will start the season against Japanese shuttler Kenta Nishimoto.

Notably, the Petronas Malaysia Open, which is part of the BWF World Tour series is a Super 1000 series and will feature all the top stars of the badminton world from 10-15 January 2023. Meanwhile, Srikanth will face Kenta Nishimoto in the Men's Singles season draw while Kenta Momota or Viktor Axelsen in the quarter-finals clash.
World champion Viktor Axelsen is scheduled to take on Ramus Gemke in first round and Kodai Naraoka will face the challenge of Lee Zii Jia in the 1st round. Talking about Women's Singles, India's top-seeded women shuttler sixth-seeded PV Sindhu cross swords with Carolina Marin in the opening round of the tournament. Another quality Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal will be up against Han Yue of China and she might face Tai Tzu Ying in the second round.
India's men's doubles pair of Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will start their campaign against Korean pair of Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won Ho. While other Indian pair MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila withdrew their participation from the competition as Arjun is injured.
