Veteran goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has left Chelsea’s camp to serve Manchester City for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, set to be held in the United States (US) from June 14 to July 13, claimed famous journalist Fabrizio Romano. City will be Bettinelli’s seventh team in his club career after earlier serving with Fulham, Dartford, Accrington Stanley, and Middlesbrough. In 2021, he became a part of Chelsea. In the last four years, he has played just one game back in January 2022, in the FA Club’s third round. Ahead of the massive tournament, reports have emerged that he will be part of Man City as the third keeper.
As Chelsea are eagerly looking to sign up AC Milan’s Mike Maignan for the upcoming season, it was clear that Bettinelli had to make way for himself. With reports of Scott Carson leaving Man City this summer, Cityzens’ manager Pep Guardiola was looking to get a veteran goalie in the squad. Carson gave six seasons to City as a backup to Ederson. Talking about Bettinelli, he has vast experience and also possesses the potential to change the game from the locker room.
Man City sign Rayan Ait-Nouri for £31m
Manchester City have also signed Algeria and Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri for £31m. His contract will last until 2030 and he will be seen donning the City jersey for the group round of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. City are placed in the Group G of the marquee competition. They will kick off their campaign against Moroccan club Wydad AC on June 18. Following this contest, they will clash against Al Ain and Serie A’s most successful club Juventus on June 22 and 26 respectively.
After becoming part of City, the 24-year-old Algerian remarked, "City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the chance to play for the club is a dream come true. I am excited about working with and learning from Pep Guardiola and his coaching team and getting to train and play alongside such a world class group of players."
